It is of most importance to wish to bring greeting to acknowledge life for our Ef .. greetings and love ..

They bring a rally to my doorstep, and get me to flag it off … the results of the mission : to spread the word, to galvanise interest in the wild, to think of preservation and of the decreasing numbers of the Asiatic tiger ..

The bikers travel a 1000 kms and bring about awareness and detailing of information on the animal, in order that its preservation gets some boost for all its wonderful campaigns that have been designed and are in the process of being designed ..

That was at 7 am and having gone to bed by 4 am it was a bit rough in the morning … but one must never allow this lethargy of timings to creep into our system ..

Many question me on public fora, how I am able to adhere to the timings of events work and other ..

How ..?

Well one just pays heed to the discipline that has been ingrained within us by our elders our parents and follows .. but at times media query on the subject does deserve better questioning .. I do not think being punctual has or should have anything to do some special quality .. NO … its as routine as our three meals in the day ..

Before all else .. we have slipped into the next day August 12, 2015 and an auspicious day for me - my Mother’s birthday ..

For long, in my early years I addressed her her as Amma ji, then it became Amma, then Maa .. and now Maa ji, if I need to have reference to her in conversation .. but honestly I loved Amma ji .. there was a bit of the ground the earth where I was born, Allahabad, in that address ..

But the reverence remained the same even if the number of letters in her calling diminished .. that never changes .. with all .. in all .. in various different regions of the world .. ‘Ma’ is the very first utterance from the child mouth .. the sound that we all that have had the experience of children know ..

Many question me on why I never say much about my Mother .. always talking only about my Father ..

How does one answer that .. can anyone have a justifiable answer to describe Mother .. or what she means to us all .. improbable, absolutely improbable to put in words in whatever language it be, to express MOTHER ..

And so one changes track to be with other words and expressions for the DAY… a day of promise and appointment .. a day of resetting the personal environ .. of books ignored being given pride of place and stature .. stature by constructing their home space, their shelves coloured, structured and painted in the style that symbolises elegance and intellectual property .. it is important .. important to position their presence and resting in a decoration that signifies quality and integrity .. somehow an environ where the individual is surrounded by library, by authors, by different subjects and titles, lends us to believe in the existence of ‘letters’ .. letters words that perhaps were given birth hundreds of years ago .. the element that facilitated conversation .. conversation that became the most important tool for communication .. a communication that has outlived all modern technological substitutes .. that has held us enthralled through the ages .. BUT only now in recent times, lending itself to a fear that it may all be lost and converted to visual communication ..

Not understanding ..?

Let me explain ..

We spoke to each other, to convey what we wanted to say .. we matured into language and its writing ; another valuable addition to the art of communication .. we read and we wrote .. !!

BUT now we write not on paper .. we write on digital screens, we send messages commonly jargonned as ‘sms’ … when we want to convey we need not be in the presence of the other, a condition which was taken away from us when telephony took over as a remarkable discovery .. now we communicate through videos .. we record our conversation and speak to each other by conveying through a visual .. be it Skype or FaceTime, the technology has done away with certain basics that remained with us for a much much longer period than what it configures today .. today configurations change within weeks and days ..

I think we as a population of the world, speak a lot lesser now, than what we did 50 years ago .. verbal .. through the sound boxes of our body systems .. how we shall be communicating 50 years from now is a science fiction probability, unheard or thought of ..

We live in a fascinating world .. but we shall leave behind a greater world for our next ..

But there is more for the day ..

They make me the Brand Ambassador for Tiger for the State of Maharashtra .. the State that has the largest number of tigers in the country .. I believe 199 .. from a total of 2200+ .. I feel honoured and privileged and shall do my utmost for the preservation and growth of this very special cat ..

The image of the Tiger in the pictures is a hand made replica and has been presented to me today by the Hon Minister .. those that shall visit me next shall be witness to this art work at Janak ..

There is the International Youth Day too .. to inspire motivate and give them, who now in our country India, form the largest percentage of youth in the world, a recognition of their importance and hence their responsibilities towards the Nation ..

And then there is ‘Aarakshan’ .. the film that marks 4 years of its presence .. a topic that has been debated and expressed by different parties in different ways and reactions .. one that brought up sensitive issues prevailing ..

And finally there is me .. with you and along with you each and every day ..

Phew … !! just made the date in time .. a minute more and one would have had to type in extra letters and figures .. heheh .. it may seem a trivial matter, but when you are constantly fighting for time, it matters ..

There is effort each moment on the social media and sites .. effort to keep up with the Ef .. effort to catch them online and respond to them so they feel they are noticed and replied to ..

But as has been said many times by me .. on the lap top this is not such an easy task .. the tweets show up late or are dug so deep down that it is impossible to reach them .. the FB is even worse .. impossible to notice who has answered and impossible to know whether the response I gave has reached them or not ..

Then some very enthusiastic emotional Ef, connect at Blog, Twitter, FB, DM’s, email, Mobile .. and the refrain is the same .. “ are you annoyed with me, why are you ignoring me, you have not replied to me in 3 days ..” and so on ..

My humble submission .. it is not as though I sit here 24 hours in anticipation of your message and waiting to reply to you .. I work .. and when I do I work on my job ..

When you express such tones of remarks it really is quite upsetting .. I am not the one that can or will ignore .. its DAY 2627 .. that is 2627 divided by 365 = 7.19 + years .. !! Do you really think I can have survived if I had ignored you .. !!

And the ask is immediate .. reply NOW, why have you not REPLIED ..

HOW ..? how can I reply immediately .. I have other and a lot of other work to do .. I remember all and I read all and I recognise all and I love all ..

DO NOT think otherwise ..

Some one will signal they are very sad, some shall say they are crying, some want to die .. I MEAN … come on !! STOP all this .. it does not behove my Ef .. love and live and be happy .. always ..

Self wishes are the order of the day .. they serve both ways. They convey to you the Ef, of my marriage anniversary … and they inform the wife that she has not been forgotten even though she is not in the country at this moment ..

After 42 years it all seems so very close and immediate .. the decision to be together .. the information to the elders .. parents first and then .. Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, my first director and then Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Jaya’s first director, and ours for many films thereafter ..

The hurried simple preparations .. the ceremony in Bengali tradition .. the drive from my rented place to the apartment of a dear friend of Jaya’s family .. my driver Nagesh insisting on driving me , sehra bound, to the site, not permitting my brother to do the honours .. the gentle drops of rain that began to fall just before .. the neighbours rushing to our place on seeing this and telling us to depart for the wedding, as the rain was a wonderful omen of auspiciousness .. and finally after it was all over, the entrance of the bride into our home and the departure soon after to London with some dear friends for a honeymoon .. our very first visit to the UK ..

Thank you all for your wishes and grace .. seems odd to be receiving when all along I have been doing the wishing for the Ef … hahaha !!
